Most pod kit problems we hear about in Lahore are charging problems: a device that will not charge, a cable that only works at one angle, or a pod that gets warm on the charger during load-shedding. This guide explains how to charge a vape safely in Pakistan, which cable and adapter to use, how to handle UPS and solar inverter power, and what to do if a device gets hot or the battery swells. It is written for adult vapers (18+) using rechargeable pod kits.
Use a proper USB-C cable
Almost every current pod kit charges over USB-C, but the cable in the box is often thin and short. Once it frays near the plug, it can charge on and off, heat up at the connector, or stop working completely. A good spare cable costs less than one pod and removes a lot of guesswork.
Pick the cable by the port on your charger, not the port on your vape:
- Your adapter or power bank has a USB-C port: use the ByBeaks USB-C to USB-C Cable (1m). It is a braided 1 metre cable with USB-C on both ends, and it supports charging and data.
- Your adapter, laptop or power bank has the older rectangular USB-A port: use the Apple Type-C to USB Cable (1m). It is a genuine Apple braided cable with USB-A on one end and USB-C on the other.
Both are Rs 799 at the time of writing (October 2026), down from Rs 1,500, and prices may change. Neither comes with a wall adapter. You can see all cables and plugs in our cables and chargers section.
| Cable | Connectors | Length | Price | Use it with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ByBeaks USB-C to USB-C Cable (1m) | USB-C to USB-C | 1m, braided | Rs 799 | USB-C wall adapters, USB-C power banks, laptop USB-C ports |
| Apple Type-C to USB Cable (1m) | USB-A to USB-C | 1m, braided | Rs 799 | Older phone chargers, USB-A power banks, laptop and PC USB ports |
Which adapter to plug it into
The US FDA’s tips to help avoid vape battery fires or explosions say to read the manufacturer’s instructions and use the charger meant for your device. The problem in Pakistan is that most pod kits come with a cable only, no plug. So check the manual or the box for the input rating. For most pod kits it is 5V.
- A branded 5V phone adapter is the sensible choice when the manual does not say otherwise. Avoid cheap no-name plugs from roadside stalls, which often run hot and have poor protection.
- Do not use a high-wattage fast charger or laptop brick unless the manual says the device supports it. A device that is rated for 2A charging will not get faster from a 65W plug, and a kit that does not support fast charging gains nothing from one.
- A laptop USB port is fine, just slower.
- Never use a damaged plug, a loose socket, or a cable with exposed wire.
Where and when to charge
Lithium-ion batteries are reliable when treated well, but the risk goes up with heat, damage and unattended charging. The FDA advises against charging overnight or leaving a vape charging unattended. The US National Fire Protection Association has a useful lithium-ion battery safety page with the same basic rules for all battery devices.
- Charge on a hard, flat surface such as a table or shelf, not on a bed, sofa, pillow or charpai.
- Keep it away from curtains, paper, e-liquid bottles and anything that burns easily.
- Charge while you are awake and nearby, and unplug it when it is full.
- Do not charge or leave a vape in a parked car in summer. A car in Lahore or Karachi in June gets far hotter than any battery should be.
- Do not charge a device straight after heavy use while it still feels warm. Give it a few minutes.
Load-shedding, UPS and solar inverter tips
Power in many Pakistani homes switches between WAPDA, UPS, generator and solar several times a day. Each switch can cause a short spike or dip, and cheap adapters handle that badly.
- Use a branded adapter with proper protection. It copes with voltage changes much better than an unbranded one.
- Plug into a socket on a surge-protected extension board where you can, not a loose two-pin socket.
- Avoid charging from a generator, where voltage is often uneven.
- Sine wave UPS and modern solar inverters are generally fine for phone-type adapters. If your UPS is old, makes a humming sound, or other adapters run hot on it, charge from a power bank instead.
- A good power bank is the easiest option during long outages. Charge the power bank when grid power is stable, then charge your pod from it.
Why a pod kit stops charging
Before you assume the battery is dead, check these in order:
- Dirty port. Pocket lint, dust and dried e-liquid collect inside the USB-C port. Switch the device off and clear it gently with a dry wooden toothpick. Do not use metal pins or water.
- Bad cable. Try a cable you know works with your phone. If the vape charges with it, the old cable was the problem.
- Weak adapter or port. Try another socket or adapter.
- Leaked e-liquid. A leaking pod can push liquid down into the device. Remove the pod, wipe the contacts with a dry tissue, and let it dry before charging.
- Deeply drained battery. A device left empty for months may need to sit on the charger for a while before the light shows. If it never responds, the battery has likely reached the end of its life.
Leaking and burnt pods can also cause odd behaviour. Our vape coil guide and the post on which replacement pod fits which device help you rule those out.
Battery capacity of popular pod kits
A bigger battery means fewer charges per week, which means less wear and fewer times you need a socket during load-shedding. These kits all charge over USB-C, so either cable above works with them. Prices are current at the time of writing (October 2026) and may change.
| Pod kit | Battery | Charging | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uwell Caliburn G5 Lite SE Pod Kit | 1600mAh | USB-C | Rs 4,499 |
| Vaporesso Xros Nano 4 Pod Kit | 1350mAh | Type-C, 2A | Rs 7,999 |
| GeekVape Sonder Q2 Pod Kit | 1350mAh | USB-C | Rs 3,299 |
| Freemax Rexa Pro Pod Kit | 1300mAh | USB-C, 2A | Rs 5,999 |
| Freemax Rexa Nano Pod Kit | 1000mAh | USB-C | Rs 3,699 |
| Uwell Whirl S2 Pod System | 900mAh | USB Type-C | Rs 3,499 |
If you vape a lot and hate charging, the Caliburn G5 Lite SE has the biggest battery in this list, and Uwell rates it at up to 6 days of light use per charge. The Xros Nano 4 and Rexa Pro both list 2A charging, so they refill faster than a standard 1A charge when power comes back. For a small pen-style device, the Whirl S2 is light and simple. Practical tips for longer battery life
- Top up before the battery is completely empty. Running it flat every day wears it faster.
- Unplug once it is full. Leaving it on the charger for hours adds heat for no benefit.
- Keep it out of direct sun, hot car dashboards and the area next to a stove or gas heater.
- Use a coil at the right wattage. Running high power all day drains the battery faster and heats the device.
- Keep the port clean and the pod contacts dry.
- If you will not use a device for weeks, store it about half charged, not full and not empty.
Built-in pod kit batteries cannot be swapped, so when one only lasts a few hours after a full charge, it is time for a new device. Our guide on how to choose a vape pod helps if you are replacing one.
If your vape gets hot or the battery swells
Slight warmth while charging is normal. These signs are not:
- The body is too hot to hold comfortably.
- The casing bulges, the panel lifts, or the pod no longer sits flat.
- A hissing sound, a sweet chemical smell, or smoke.
- The device fires on its own.
If you notice any of these, unplug it straight away if you can do so safely, and move it onto a non-flammable surface such as a tile floor or a metal tray, away from people and anything that burns. Do not keep using it, do not charge it again, and do not press, puncture or try to open a swollen battery. Once it has cooled, keep it away from heat and ask your local electronics recycler about disposal. Do not throw it in household rubbish. The same applies to devices that have been dropped hard, cracked, or got wet.
Disposable vapes are a separate case. If a disposable does not have a charging port, it is not meant to be charged. Our comparison of vape pods vs disposable vapes covers the differences.
Travel and storage
- Flights: airlines generally require vapes and spare batteries in hand luggage, not checked bags, and do not allow vaping or charging on board. Check your airline’s rules before you fly.
- Spare batteries: if you use a mod with removable cells, carry them in a plastic battery case. The FDA warns against loose batteries touching keys or coins in a pocket.
- Road trips: keep the vape with you, not in the glovebox or boot, and charge from a power bank instead of a cheap car socket adapter.
- At home: store devices and e-liquid in a cool, dry place out of reach of children.
Vaping products are for adults 18+ only. Nicotine is addictive.
FAQ
Can I charge my vape with my phone charger?
Follow your device manual first. The FDA advises using the charger meant for the device. Most pod kits come with a cable only and take 5V input, so a branded 5V adapter is the usual choice. Avoid fast chargers above what the device supports.
How long does a pod kit take to charge?
It depends on battery size and charging speed. Kits with 2A charging, like the Xros Nano 4 and Freemax Rexa Pro, fill faster than 1A ones. Check the manual for your device’s figure.
Is it okay to charge a vape overnight?
No. The FDA advises against charging overnight or leaving a vape charging unattended. Charge it while you are nearby and unplug it when full.
Why is my vape not charging?
The most common causes are a dirty USB-C port, a damaged cable, or e-liquid on the contacts. Clean the port with a dry wooden toothpick and try a known-good cable before assuming the battery is dead.
Can I charge my vape on UPS or solar inverter power?
Usually yes with a branded adapter on a sine wave UPS or modern inverter. If your UPS is old or adapters run hot on it, charge from a power bank instead. Avoid generator power.
What should I do if my vape battery is swollen?
Stop using and charging it. Place it on a non-flammable surface away from people, do not press or open it, and take it to an electronics recycler rather than household rubbish.
